CCS-Wilmington Walks in MLK Parade Every year, on the third Monday in January, our country honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with MLK Day. The City of Wilmington joins in this celebration with its annual downtown Parade. After a hiatus in 2025, this well-loved event returned this year, with Classical Charter Schools of Wilmington proudly marching alongside nearly one hundred other participants. Despite the cold weather, Third Street in downtown Wilmington was lined with people celebrating, watching, and cheering. This marks the eleventh year that CCS-Wilmington has participated in the Parade, and we are honored to once again be part of an event that brings the community together to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of peace and perseverance. Mock History Bowls As a classical charter school, history is an important part of CCS-America’s curriculum. Beginning in Kindergarten, students begin learning chronological classical history. Content from other classes lines up with the time period being discussed in history class, allowing students to reach a comprehensive understanding as each subject informs the other. This continues as students rise in grade level. Once students reach fifth grade, they have the opportunity to participate in the CCS-America History Bowl, a highly anticipated event that gives students the chance to show off their historical knowledge. Each campus puts together four teams, one for each grade level from fifth to eighth grade. Students prepare for the History Bowl for months, studying and memorizing up to 400 classical history questions that could be asked during the fast-paced competition. To practice, the teams from all campuses meet twice before the real competition takes place for Mock History Bowls, where students can see and understand the flow of the competition. The first Mock History Bowl took place on November 13th, while the second took place on January 21st. Students improved so much from the first practice to the next. The teams are very competitive and are looking forward to showing off their skills and winning their grade level’s trophy. We are excited to see their impressive performances at the Final History Bowl, which will take place in March! **************

Happy 250th Birthday to the Marines!Founded on November 10, 1775, the United States Marine Corps has spent the last 250 years serving our country with honor and bravery. Marines have fought from the shores of Tripoli to the valleys of Afghanistan- always the most-ready when the nation is least-ready.Marines always answer the call of the Nation. On any given day, nearly 38,000 Marines are forward deployed around the globe, enabling them to be the first on scene, first to help, first to contain a brewing crisis, and if required to do so, first to fight anywhere for as long as it takes. Marines stand always ready. Those who have worn the uniform continue to serve through the way they live their lives, leading the way in their communities and embodying the spirit of “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” At CCS-America, we are lucky to have multiple former Marines on our staff and serving at our schools. What is Ready Position? At CCS-America, we believe that strong learning begins with strong habits. One of these important habits is ‘ready position’, a posture that prepares students for instruction and helps them stay focused in the classroom. To achieve ready position, students sit facing forward with their chairs scooted under their desks and their feet flat on the floor. They fold their hands on their desks, keep their heads up, and direct their eyes towards the board, awaiting instruction. This position signals that they are prepared to listen, learn, and fully engage with the lesson.By practicing ready position every day, students build positive habits that they will carry with them beyond their time at CCS-America.*************
